Savile Report

Kate Lampard, a former practising barrister and former Deputy Chair of the Financial Ombudsman Service, was appointed by the Secretary of State in October 2012 to provide independent oversight of three independent investigations into the role of Jimmy Savile in the NHS at Broadmoor, Leeds General Infirmary and Stoke Mandeville.  Kate Lampard has also provided general oversight of the smaller NHS investigations.

Kate Lampard has today published an assurance report alongside the completed NHS reports into the activities of Jimmy Savile in relation to NHS hospitals - please click here to view this

Following information given to police as part of Operation Yew Tree that Jimmy Savile may have visited one of our former sites in the 1970's, we have carried out an extensive investigation, led by an independent investigator, to establish if Savile ever visited Leavesden Hospital, and what access he may have had to vulnerable service users.

We are confident that he never visited any of our facilities or those belonging to our predecessor organisations.  We have concluded that a dance troupe which sometimes performed with him, is likely to have visited Leavesden Hospital, but that Savile did not accompany them.

We have spoken to many staff and former staff who worked at Leavesden Hospital at the time, and searched old visitor books, newspapers, staff newsletters and historical research documents but found no mention of a visit from Savile, and no-one who could recall such a visit.  We were able to find records of other celebrities who visited the hospital.

The police information came from a member of an amateur dance troupe who had performed with Savile on some occasions but had never witnessed any improper behaviour.  She could recall dancing with her troupe at Leavesden Hospital, and our investigation found that Savile was not present.  Amateur groups often came into Leavesden Hospital to perform as part of an entertainment programme for service users and carers.

Our policies then and now prevent performers or celebrity guests spending time alone with our service users.
