Opened in June 2014 and is the culmination of more than four years of planning and development and a £42m investment for the Trust to deliver world-class inpatient care.
The design of Kingfisher Court has drawn upon international best practice to create a healing and therapeutic environment to support people on their recovery journey from mental illness. All rooms have en-suite facilities giving service users greater privacy and dignity. Service users will have support from an experienced clinical team and access to meaningful activities both indoor and outdoor.
Located at our Kingsley Green site, near Radlett, Kingfisher Court has 86 bedrooms, on five separate wards that specialise in:
- acute adult mental health care
- mental health care for adults who may be frail or vulnerable
- assessment and treatment for people with a learning disability
Therapies and activities
Kingfisher Court has been designed to maximise the spaces available to service users for therapeutic and meaningful activity. Each ward has two large internal courtyards, one for active pursuits and social interaction and the other a quieter space which will allow service users a place for meditative activities including a labyrinth, relaxing activities, individual sessions or small therapeutic groups.
On each ward, there is a multi-purpose activity room for therapy sessions, leisure and recreational activities and internet access for service users. Kingfisher Court also has four dedicated therapy rooms, and two large enclosed outside areas, one allowing a range of horticultural therapeutic activities, the other a large open space for sports and fitness activities, including outdoor gym equipment. There is a dedicated space for computer access for service users to use. Occupational Therapy, Arts Therapies, Psychology and Spiritual Care will be available to service users as part of their treatment plans as appropriate to their individual needs.
