Dr Emma Wadey

Chief Nursing Officer

Emma joined HPFT in July 2024 as Chief Nursing Officer.  Emma is a registered mental health nurse who progressed her career in clinical and service management roles across Surrey, Sussex and London, including in prison settings

Between 2008 and 2013 she was a Nurse Consultant at Broadmoor Hospital, part of West London Mental Health NHS Trust. Between 2013 and 2016 Emma was Director of Nursing Standards and Safety at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and during 2016 spent a period as Interim Executive Director of Nursing and Patient Experience. Emma was then approached to take on a year long secondment to the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust as Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Safety.

In 2018 Emma joined Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust as Deputy Director of Nursing. Between 2017 and 2020 Emma was also Senior Professional Nurse Advisor to NHS Improvement. Since 2020 Emma was in the role of Deputy Director of Mental Health Nursing for NHS England and gained her PhD on the impact of grief and stigma after suicide in 2022.

Throughout her career Emma has continued to work clinically, most recently this was as a Consultant Nurse within a psychiatric liaison service. Emma is committed to continual improvement and global mental health, she is a Technical Advisor to the WHO’s European Mental Health Collaborative and is a Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey.
