Maria Teresita Basford
I am honoured to have been selected as a governor for HPFT. I love a challenge and want to make a difference at HPFT.
I am a Nutritionist Dietitian by profession. Originally from the Philippines, I moved to England 34 years ago. I have been married to my husband Peter for 22 years and we have a daughter, Kimberley who is currently in her final year at Swansea University studying reading accountancy and finance. At the beginning of my career I worked at St John Elizabeth Hospital in London, whilst studying part time at King’s College. My family and I relocated from London to Potters Bar in the mid 90s and I became a full time wife and mother, volunteering at two local mother and toddler groups.
During 2003 - 2008 my family relocated to Rome, returning to Potters Bar after four years. Since 2009 I have been a volunteer Catechist and Eucharistic Minister at Diocese of Westminster St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Potters Bar.
More recently I have been actively involved in a number of Philippine charity organisations, as secretary of KOR and Filipino Women’s Association (FWA). I am also on the Board of Trustees at the European Network of Filipino Diaspora UK branch of ENFID Europe, an organisation focusing on charity work, education and international networking, seeking to create a sense of shared belonging for the overseas Filipino community in Europe.
