• People with a learning disability are more likely to suffer with constipation than the general public
• Constipation is registered as a health problem for almost 60% of those with a learning disability
• 26% of people with a learning disability are prescribed repeat laxatives compared to 0.1% of the general population
• 19% of those with Downs Syndrome are prescribed laxatives, compared to 3% of the general population
