R&D statistics

We are continuously improving how we initiate and deliver clinical research. We want to increase opportunities for services users to participate in research and internationally enhance HPFT as a host for research.

The quarterly reporting for initiating and delivering clinical trials are available for download below.

Participation in clinical trials

We are participating in several research studies, involving both staff and service-users. Clinical trials are one kind of study we are participating in. Such trials typically compare a new intervention (drug or therapy) against a placebo (neutral agent) or a standard treatment. Such trials lead to advances in medical treatment and provide important data not just on efficacy, but also on tolerability.

The National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) places increasing emphasis on clinical trials and there is an expectation that NHS Trusts will support UK clinical trials and give service users the opportunity to participate where it is appropriate for them to do so.

The NIHR maintains a record of all clinical trials taking place across NHS trusts. HPFT provides information on recruitment to clinical trials to the NIHR on a quarterly basis. As part of our commitment to providing the public with information on our current clinical trials participation, details of recent performance in initiating and delivering clinical trials can be found here:
