HPFT helps develop new model supporting continuous improvement of mental health services

28 Mar 18 - 28 Mar 19

Many mental health service providers around England are meeting complex challenges with exceptional innovation, energy and creativity. Today, a national model has been published to support continuous improvement of services, drawing on the experience and skill in the mental health sector titled ‘Valued care in mental health: Improving for excellence’.

Overview

NHS Improvement (NHSi) partnered with 9 mental health trusts that are on improvement journeys at different stages to create a sustainable model that reflects the challenges and the lessons learned from setbacks, as well as from successful innovations and improvements. We at HPFT are proudly one of these.

The aim of the publication was to create a practical resource from those who have travelled the journey before, in the hope of supporting and encouraging other mental health trusts or any provider of healthcare who are wishing to improve its services.

Working with those who use services, their families and carers should be the starting point and priority throughout any improvement journey and this resource reflects this co-productive philosophy throughout.

We believe that there is a world-class model for mental health service delivery in England, the problem is that different bits of it are in different organisations. This resource provides examples of good practice which if brought together would deliver to this standard right across the whole delivery system.

The 9 trusts that worked in collaboration with NHS Improvement are:

  • Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust
  • Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust
  • Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
  • Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust
  • Birmingham and Solihull NHS Mental Health Foundation Trust
  • Devon Partnership NHS Trust
  • East London Foundation Trust
  • Lancashire Care Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
  • Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
