HPFT to to lead specialist learning disability health services across Essex

01 Nov 18 - 05 Nov 20

We have been awarded the contract to provide learning disability (LD) services across the whole of Essex beginning from 1 November 2018. The new services will make it easier to access improved mainstream and specialist LD health care designed around people’s individual needs.

Working together with Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Anglian Community Enterprise CIC (ACE), we will lead the improvements in specialist care for people with a learning disability. The mental health trust currently provides services in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Norfolk and North Essex. This has been commissioned by the seven Clinical Commissioning Groups across Essex*.

In preparation, service users, families, carers, and health professionals were consulted when designing the new service model, which is also based on guidance from Southend, Essex and Thurrock local authorities and NHS England.

Karen Taylor, Director of Strategy and Integration at HPFT said “HPFT is well respected for its expertise in specialist services for people with learning disabilities. As a leading provider, we want to provide a better service for people across Essex with learning disabilities.

“We have co-developed our service model with the lead commissioners and Experts by Experience (service users with a lived experience), so that we can offer the right treatment at the right time and for the right length of time.

“The strength of the new partnership means we can support mainstream access to all our services, as well as dedicated services tailored to individual needs. I am delighted we were awarded the contract and look forward to providing efficient and effective services in Essex.”

*The seven Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) are: Brentwood & Basildon CCG, Castle, Point & Rochford CCG, Mid Essex CCG, North East Essex CCG, Thurrock CCG, West Essex CCG and Southend CCG.
