CAMHS DBT Service Nursing Times Award Finalists!

29 Oct 21

We’re thrilled that our fantastic CAMHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Service was shortlisted in the ‘Nursing in the Community’ and the ‘Team of the Year’ categories, at this year’s Nursing Times awards!

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a twice weekly psychological therapy, offered to young people aged 13 to 18 who struggle with managing emotions that can sometimes result in risk behaviours, such as suicide and self-harm. DBT offers a vital 1:1 therapy session and a skills group each week for 24 weeks, with the option to repeat for a second 24 weeks. Families are also invited to attend a 24-week skills group, so they can learn alongside their young person.

Now in its third year, the DBT service is available for young people living across Hertfordshire. In the last 12 months, the service has expanded to offer a group programme called ‘Family Connections’ for parents across CAMHS. This is a graduate group for those who have completed DBT with the service, and, more recently, a new ‘life skills group’ for young people who are supported by other CAMHS teams. The team also offer telephone coaching to all young people who use the service.
