HPFT marks the 100th anniversary of Learning Disability Nursing

13 Jun 19 - 13 Jun 20

Learning Disability Nurses have specialist knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities which help them work effectively and in partnership with people who have a learning disability, their families and carers.

To celebrate 100 years of their unique contributions to the field of nursing and the wider community, HPFT are hosting celebrations at various sites including Buckinghamshire, Essex and at the Head Office in Hatfield. Our nurses are also sharing their photos and stories and talking about why they chose to enter the nursing profession.

HPFT’s Director of Quality and Safety and Chief Nurse Jane Padmore said: “The professional skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated by Registered Learning Disability Nurses is invaluable; they provide outstanding, personalised care that is responsive to individual needs. It’s a pleasure to acknowledge their contributions at this month’s centenary celebrations.”

The University of Hertfordshire will be hosting an exhibition on Friday 28 June to celebrate LD nursing – past, present and future in the Chapman Lounge between 11am and 1pm. Email: d.fearns@herts.ac.uk for more information.
