Tackling stress at HPFT for Mental Health Awareness Week
11 May 18 - 11 May 19
HPFT is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week (14-20 May) and the focus for 2018 is on stress management.
With two thirds of us experiencing a mental health problem in our lifetime, it’s vitally important to raise awareness of how to manage our stress to help prevent problems such as anxiety, and depression – the most common mental health disorders in Britain.
HPFT’s North Essex Wellbeing Services have arranged health and wellbeing workshops and screenings of ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ throughout Essex during the week at locations in Chelmsford, Clacton-On-Sea, Harlow, Colchester, Epping and Ongar. Full details are listed at the end of this news item.
A variety of talks and workshops are taking place at Stevenage Wellbeing Centre on May 16 – along with the chance to try Laughter Yoga and other activities. The event is organised by Spot the Signs along with Mind in Mid Herts. Find out more details at the end of this news item.
HPFT’s chief executive Tom Cahill said: “Most of us are juggling extremely busy lives and it’s vital to make time to look after our mental health. These free events are really useful as they provide the tools to recognise the signs and cope with stress.”
Hertfordshire County Council’s director of Public Health, Jim McManus, said: “We all know what it’s like to feel stressed as it is part of everyday life. But when we get overwhelmed by stress it can become difficult to manage and even affect our mental health.
“This week organisations across the county are taking the opportunity to open up conversations about stress and help our residents develop healthy coping strategies.”
Hertfordshire County Council is also leading a campaign to encourage young people to ‘Just Talk’ about their mental health. A collaborative project with health, council, community and voluntary organisations and schools across Hertfordshire, #JustTalk aims to normalise conversations about mental health. As we enter into exam season, there's lots of free help and support on offer from websites with practical tips including preparing revision timetables and having a good breakfast on exam day. Emotional wellbeing support is also available every day at https://kooth.com/.
