Information for referrers

We welcome referrals from any professionals for women with a Hertfordshire GP with moderate to severe mental health conditions who are currently pregnant or have a child under 18 months.

We also accept referrals for women who are currently well and have a history of, or a current, serious mental condition eg. Bipolar Disorder, Schizoaffective Disorder, Schizophrenia, Post-Partum Psychosis or other Psychotic illness.

Referrals are also accepted for women with a moderate - severe mental health condition who are planning a pregnancy and would benefit from pre-conception counselling.

If substance misuse is the primary problem, please refer to specialist substance misuse services. We can work jointly with substance misuse services if the woman also has a moderate to severe mental illness.

Women under 18 years old can be referred to Children and Young People (CYP) Services and the perinatal mental health service will work jointly with CYP services.

Routine referrals are screened by a multi-disciplinary team twice weekly. Urgent referrals should be discussed with the duty worker.
