Assessment and Treatment Service

In North Essex service users with a learning disability are admitted to the inpatient assessment and treatment unit when they are so unwell they cannot be treated in the community. The service aims to aid recovery so that service users can return home as soon as possible.

The unit provides accommodation for up to six people.  Men and women have individual bedrooms and separate bathrooms; lounges are also segregated. There are dedicated resource rooms which include a gym, activity kitchen and art room.  These are separated from other areas to enable personal and social development to support successful treatment and recovery.

The multi-disciplinary team works with the service user and their family to provide the care they need safely and therapeutically, whilst ensuring their dignity is maintained.  The team is made up of: psychiatrists, psychologists, art therapists and qualified learning disability nurses.
