Research and Development

Welcome to the HPFT Research & Development Department (R&D).

Research in the NHS is vital to provide a better understanding of illness and improve care. Clinical research is an important part of what we do at HPFT as it is it enables us to provide our service users with the latest and best care available. Our research at HPFT is focussed through our four workstreams of Children and Adolescent Mental Health, Neurodevelopmental (Learning Disabilities), Adult Mental Health and Dementia and Frailty. Each work stream has their own research infrastructure consisting of a network of principal investigators and research assistants.

HPFT is a research active Trust that has a formal partnership with The University of Hertfordshire (https://www.herts.ac.uk) and is part of the NIHR Eastern Clinical Research Network (https://www.nihr.ac.uk/nihr-in-your-area/eastern/). We receive funding support from Eastern CRN to help us deliver research that has been prioritised by the NHS. HPFT also host the RADiANT clinical and research network that focuses on mental health and behavioural issues associated with neuro-developmental conditions. The network includes clinicians from over a dozen NHS Trusts, academics from several UK and international universities and an advisory group of around 100 people that includes service users, patients, their family members, carers, community leaders and representatives from charities and professional bodies.
