Easy read advice for getting ready for festivals and celebrations

Professionals in the West Specialist Learning Disability Service from Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT), have produced a useful presentation with advice on preparing for festivals and celebrations.

The 12 minute You Tube video includes pointers for people with learning disabilities and their carers or professionals to help them with preparations for any festival or holiday. The video encourages people to think in advance about what festivals mean to people with learning disabilities and what to think about to ensure they can be enjoyed by everyone.

Clinical Psychologist Louisa Rhodes said: “Changes in our normal routines, around the time of festivals can be a source of anxiety for some people, especially for those with learning disabilities. We’ve produced this short video to help with planning ahead to reduce any anxieties. The slides are in an easy read format and can be used for the many different festivals that take place throughout the year, including Christmas.”
