Introducing Sarah Betteley, HPFT’s new Chair

26 Jan 21

Sarah Betteley begins her new role as Chair of Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT)

Following a two month handover and transition period, working with her predecessor Chris Lawrence, Sarah Betteley is looking forward to getting started in her new role as HPFT’s Chair from 1 January 2021.

Being a commercial solicitor by profession, Sarah will be using her skills and expertise to support HPFT’s commercial strategic planning, as well as other matters including new contracts, tenders, funding bids and other legal, governance and compliance issues.

Sarah, who has been a Non-Executive Director at HPFT for the last six years and latterly HPFT’s Deputy Chair said: “It is a privilege to be working alongside an amazing team of people, with such a rich mix of skills and experience. Everyone is so passionate about what they do. I am inspired by the united sense of purpose to keep learning and improving our organisation for our service users and as a place to work.

“I’m very grateful already to have received such a warm welcome as HPFT’s new Chair by many HPFT staff, colleagues, partners and stakeholders from the Herts and West Essex Integrated Care system (ICS) and beyond. I’m enjoying developing these relationships and listening to all the many different thoughts, views and priorities. I will ensure these views are considered and represented, so that we continue delivering improvements to services for people with mental health issues and/or learning disabilities and their Carers and families.”

HPFT’s Chief Executive Tom Cahill said: “A warm welcome to Sarah, who I know will thrive in her new role as Chair and continue to be a huge asset to our organisation.

“I’m looking forward to working with Sarah. I know she is fully committed like all of us at HPFT to improve the outcomes of people with mental health and learning disabilities, working in partnership with our service users, carers and health and social care partners”.
