World Autism Acceptance Week: HPFT pharmacist has autism educational article published in the Pharmaceutical Journal

An HPFT Independent Prescriber Pharmacist Reena Tharian and her colleague Danielle Adams, doctoral researcher at the University of Warwick and an expert with lived experience, have had an educational article published in the Pharmaceutical Journal entitled Autism identification, management and support.
The timely CPD (Continuing Professional Development) article coincides with World Autism Acceptance Week which is an opportunity to help people understand what autism is, as well as the ways it can affect life for autistic people.
The article on autism is aimed at pharmacy colleagues in hospitals, primary care and the community, and highlights:
- the challenges that autistic individuals and their carers may face when accessing healthcare and medication
- reasonable adjustments that a pharmacy team can make to support an autistic individual
- health inequalities that exist in autistic people and
- potential overprescribing of psychotropic medicines in autistic individuals
