World Physiotherapy Day: Meet Hayley!

08 Sep 25

To celebrate World Physiotherapy Day, we caught up with Hayley, a specialist physiotherapist in our Older People’s Mental Health Team. The team plays an important role in supporting people living with dementia.

A woman in a white uniform with a blue NHS lanyard stands indoors and smiles at the camera. Behind her is a room with a sink, chairs, and large windows letting in natural light.

What does your role involve?

“I begin my day by reviewing what has happened on the ward since I was last in – looking out for new arrivals, changes in how someone’s doing, and upcoming meetings with families.

“Working as physiotherapist within this team means being adaptable and flexible. I structure my day based on how the service users are doing and what opportunities come up to support them.”

What’s the most rewarding part of your role?

“The most rewarding part of my role is when I see service users enjoying an activity, engaging in a group or are starting to regain some independence. During these moments, we get to catch real glimpses of their personality.

“When we see a real connection – for example through music, art, exercise or gardening – it’s very rewarding and reminds us why we come to work each day.”

How would you describe your role in 3 words?

“Interesting, at times challenging, but rewarding!”
