Learning Disability Week: Catch-up with HPFT’s Making Services Better group

16 Jun 25

Our Making Services Better group is our incredible group led by people with learning disabilities, for people with learning disabilities.

The group brings together colleagues, service users and carers across the Trust –they work together to make our services more accessible and inclusive.

It is led by HPFT’s Health Access Champions, who use their lived experience to improve the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities.

Three people are standing in front of a building with a brick wall and windows. Each person is holding a sign. The signs read, from left to right: 'Making,' 'Services,' and 'Better.'

Members of the team shared some of the achievements they are proud of this year:

“Currently, we are focussed on sharing information in accessible, easy-read formats.”

Easy-read information uses clear language and visuals to make information easier to understand. This helps more people to access our services and look after their wellbeing.

“In the Trust, we have helped develop easy-read leaflets about infections such as E. coli, C. diff and Norovirus. We also helped to produce an easy-read leaflet on how people can share feedback about their care.”

The Health Access Champions have made a real difference across the Trust, facilitating workshops on co-production, supporting community teams with newsletters, joining interview panels and welcoming new staff during inductions.

“We are also excited to be working with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to improve their website’s accessibility.”
