Great to be HPFT Psychological Services

“Great to be HPFT Psychological Services.” This was the feeling in the room after colleagues from across the Trust joined together to network, learn and celebrate as part of Psychological Professions Week.

Dr Fiona Roberts, HPFT Clinical Director for Psychological Services opened the event and acknowledged what a big difference their work makes to service users and carers. 

HPFT’s Chief Nurse Dr Emma Wadey, then took to the stage where she highlighted the importance of providing a psychologically safe space. She reflected on the emotional impact of the work on colleagues and the importance of taking care of themselves.

The keynote speaker was Dr Adrian Whittington, National Clinical Lead for Psychological Professions at NHSE who shared his views on  the importance of uniting the psychological professions.  Talking about wider workforce challenges for the services, Dr Whittington draw attention to both the Darzi review and the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan which includes growing the profession from 24,000 - 26,000 by 2037 as well as a commitment to grow apprenticeships. He rounded off his keynote speech talking about increasing diversity within the profession and the importance of everyone taking a role in transformation and innovation.

Throughout the day, colleagues had the opportunity to take part in a variety of workshops including carer inclusive practice and acceptance and commitment therapy.
