Flowers bloom in support of women impacted by domestic violence

08 Apr 25

At HPFT, we are dedicated to showing our support for people who have experienced domestic violence, whether they be service users, carers or staff.

Domestic violence can have a significant and devastating impact on mental health. In England and Wales, the Domestic Homicide Project found that more victims took their own lives than the number of people killed by their partner for 2 years in a row.

Last year as part of the 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, HPFT joined several organisations across Hertfordshire to plant orange flowers across the county, with our teams planting 52 bulbs last December.

4 months later, these flowers have begun to bloom.

Kate Johnson, HPFT Professional Lead for Safeguarding Adults, shares:

“Tragically, 3 women die each week as a result of domestic violence. In December, we decided to plant 52 orange flowers to represent 52 women over a 4-month period.

“These flowers act as a visual reminder of domestic violence within our communities and we are proud to support this campaign.”

Anyone struggling with their mental health for this, or any reason, please contact your GP, call NHS 111 option 2 or our 24/7 Single Point of Access (SPA) mental health helpline at 0800 6444 101, or visit Hertfordshire and Mid Essex Talking Therapies.
