Co-production at the heart of change at HPFT

04 Jun 25

At HPFT, we are dedicated to bringing the voices of people with lived experience of mental health conditions, learning disabilities and autism to the forefront of our work.

Our Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) approach helps us to achieve this – we are committed to helping our staff realise their potential to innovate and improve. We aim to embed an improvement mindset throughout the Trust, offering long-term development programmes as well as support and funding with improvement projects.

Most importantly, we are dedicated to putting co-production and the voices of lived experience at the centre of our improvement projects.

Co-production is where we collaborate with people with lived experience and those who use our services to improve care. We believe that people who have first-hand experience are experts on their own needs and can give us invaluable insights.

Recently, we presented at the 10th annual #MHimprove event in Utrecht. We were delighted to share our co-production achievements and goals to mental healthcare improvement leaders from across the world.

Hillary Mitchell, Chief Innovation and Improvement Officer, shares:

“This conference was a fantastic opportunity to showcase HPFT – not only as a leader in Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism care but also as a pioneer in embedding co-production into every aspect of our improvement work.

“Evidence shows that when lived experience colleagues are engaged in improvement work, it not only supports their own recovery but also enhances the quality of care for others. That’s why we’re committed to making lived experience a core element of our work.”
