Living and Learning Together at HPFT

24 Oct 24

Listening to the experiences of care from service users and carers is incredibly important to us, and helps us hear what we are doing well and what we need to improve.

Recently, we held a “Listening and Learning Together” event, so we could get an in-depth understanding of people’s journeys and experiences within HPFT.

Groups of HPFT staff, partners, service users and carers sitting at tables and talking

Service users, carers, staff and partners gathered at the Birchwood Centre in Hatfield, and shared their diverse and unique recovery journeys in discussion groups. People shared how they like to be supported in achieving their life goals and addressing their life challenges. They also talked about any changes they’d like to see in the care and support they receive or how we involve and support carers.

The stories we heard were powerful and will be used to help us to evolve and improve so we continue to deliver care that is effective, meaningful and promotes hope and recovery.

Finally, we were delighted to be able to recruit four new people to join our Expert by Experience (EbE) Community – EbEs are those who have lived experience with HPFT services either as a service user or carer, who we work with to strengthen and promote the voice of lived experience within the Trust. This supports us to increase the influence that people with lived experience play in ensuring we deliver high quality care now and into the future.

Service users, carers and staff fed back that they found it valuable to hear the experiences of others, and that they felt listened to.

If you know someone that may be interested in joining our Expert by Experience community and would like to find out more, please contact Erzsébet Pek, Head of Lived Experience Workforce and Involvement: epek@nhs.net.
