Digital Art School Programme inspires creativity on units

30 Sep 24

Service users on some of our inpatient units have been showing their artistic flair thanks to a collaboration with Hospital Rooms, an organisation that collaborates with artists, service users and NHS mental health trusts to deliver online workshops hosted by professional artists.

Art can be a powerful outlet to express your feelings and explore your creative side. Even if you don’t think you are creative, or have never participated in artistic activities before, you may find that art can promote a deep sense of relaxation and healing.

HPFT have had the pleasure of receiving a number of Hospital Rooms’ materials boxes, containing paint brushes, paper, paints, inks and posters.  These boxes are designed specifically for inpatient mental health settings, enabling people to follow the programme for 12 months.

Our Art Therapists and Occupational Therapists have been supporting sessions, encouraging service users to follow along. Some of the wonderful artwork completed at our units so far include beautifully painted lotus flowers and paisley print patterns.

Some of our OT Recreational Workers have shared their positive feedback:

Swift Ward: “I have done three sessions so far and the engagement was very good. When people see the art materials, their mood brightens up! Many of them followed the sessions until the end and wanted to keep their artworks, with some mentioning that it was the most relaxing activity they attended on the ward. They also enjoyed comparing each other’s artworks.”

Robin Ward: “We had three people participating and they all found it very engaging – they hope to do more sessions!”
