Celebrating International Nurses' Day

12 May 25

With over 100 colleagues in attendance, our International Nurses' Day conference at our head office was a brilliant day and a great opportunity for colleagues from across the Trust to come together.

The image shows a TV displaying a purple and magenta graphic about celebrating International Nurses' Day at HPFT. The text on the graphic reads: "Welcome International Nurses' Day at HPFT, Our Nurses Our Future."The image shows a round table set for a conference with water bottles, pens, snacks, flowers, leaflets and a microphone.

At HPFT, we love to celebrate our colleagues and recognise the incredible impact they have on those with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.

The conference was an opportunity to showcase the talent and innovation in the incredible nursing workforce, to hear about the projects going on within the Trust and for staff to participate in a question-and-answer session with some of our nursing leaders.

HPFT Chief Nursing Officer, Dr Emma Wadey, is giving a presentation at the front.

We were privileged to be able to hear from Dr Mandy Burton, National Deputy Director of Mental Health Nursing at NHS England, who shared the national priorities in mental health nursing to improve service user outcomes and staff wellbeing.

Dr Catherine Gooday, Health and Care Director for Nursing, Midwifery, and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) at the East of England Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) also spoke about the importance of embedding research in clinical nursing practice to improve care and enhance staff satisfaction and retention.

HPFT nurses spend so much time caring for others, so the event provided the opportunity to encourage our nurses to look after their own mental health. Colleagues had the chance to attend a Zumba class, a mindfulness session and a keeping well one-stop-shop from our Physical Health Team.

To close the day, service users and colleagues with lived experience of having a mental health condition shared their personal stories and reflected on the importance of mental health nurses and what an incredible impact they have made on their recovery.

Thank you to all our nurses!
