19 Nov 24

Have you ever wondered how the Trust uses research to develop and shape its services? In our latest Research and Development Report, we highlight how working with service users and others is central to everything that we do.

Getting service users’ voices heard

We are passionate about advocating for people with mental health difficulties and learning disabilities – therefore, we want service users, carers and staff to have their voices at the heart of our research. Over the past year, over 2750 service users have stepped forward to participate in our research projects and share their experiences. Hearing first-hand experiences plays a key role in delivering high-quality care.

New collaborations

As part of our research growth, we are working closely with partner organisations to increase the scope of our research and help us to reach more people from different communities. This includes new academic research partnerships with Kingston, Anglia Ruskin and Buckinghamshire New Universities, as well as new collaborative partnerships with charitable and third sector organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society, POWhER, One Vision and Herts People First.

Publishing journals and books

We have published 56 peer-reviewed journal articles and a number of books on mental health. This has helped to expand research in fields such as learning disabilities, suicide, mental health disorders such as OCD and bipolar, self-harm, autism and more, helping to transform future care for the better.

Achieving awards and recognition

We were delighted this year to congratulate to Naomi Fineberg, HPFT Consultant Psychiatrist and Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Hertfordshire who was named Researcher of the Year in the University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Awards 2023
