Trust partners with Isabel Hospice to deliver new training for staff

HPFT have partnered with Isabel Hospice to deliver a new training course for staff caring for and supporting people living with life-limiting physical health conditions.

Specialist educators with extensive palliative care knowledge from Isabel Hospice visited the Trust Head Office this week and delivered the first course to 20 members of staff, giving them a real understanding of the challenges that service users with long term conditions face.

The one day course gave staff an overview of service user support needs from a palliative care perspective. Trainers shared information about causes, symptom control and how to recognise when someone is needing end-of-life support due to conditions such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and renal failure.

Staff attending the course said that it had been ‘just what they needed’ and were keen for their colleagues to take up the opportunity for training.

The session also covered the importance of advanced care planning and how to best help service users with life limiting conditions to live well.
