Staff survey shows HPFT one of the best places to work in mental health

19 Apr 23

Results of the 2022 national Staff Survey, published recently, show that HPFT continues to be one of the best places to work within mental health services in the country.

NHS organisations across the country take part in this annual survey, the results of which have been used to improve working conditions for staff and improve service user care.

The results show that over 50% of the staff responded to the NHS staff survey in 2022 in which they ‘agree’ or ‘strongly agree’ that they would recommend HPFT as a place to work. This means that we have a great indication of how staff are feeling to help guide us in our strategic planning.

Our responses have been compared to fifty other Mental Health and Learning Disability Trusts nationally, helping us make meaningful comparisons of our data. Overall, the Trust has had some fantastic results, and out of nine areas of focus, we have rated higher than the national average in eight areas and the same as the national average in the other.

The results tell a story of highly engaged, motivated, enthusiastic staff working at HPFT. The survey has shown that staff overwhelmingly believe that their role makes a difference to service users, to the extent that HPFT had the best score nationally for this question.

Despite it being an incredibly difficult period, as teams recover from the impact of COVID and face an unprecedented level of demand for services.  Our survey results show improvements on last year’s results overall, which Karen Taylor, Chief Executive attributes to the “dedication, resilience and strength” of HPFT staff.
