Celebrating International Women’s Day with an NMC visit

10 Mar 26

To mark International Women’s Day, the Trust was delighted to welcome NMC Chief Executive Paul Rees, who visited Thumbswood Mother and Baby Unit.

Paul met with colleagues from Thumbswood and our Community Perinatal Team who talked through how the services operate from referral through to discharge and some of the successes and challenges they face. A peer support worker with lived experience also shared her journey which Paul described as the most powerful part of the visit.

‘Her story was the best possible credit to the work of the service, alongside the outcomes they are rightly proud of – including the fact that almost all women are able to return to the community after their stay.’

Paul also commented how he could see our Trust values shining through. ‘Each member of the team was welcoming, kind, positive, respectful and professional. This is a team that clearly takes enormous pride in the care they provide.’

Paul and colleagues were shown around the unit where they met staff and some mums who are currently being supported.

The visit was a great opportunity to showcase some of the fantastic work that is happening in HPFT.
