HPFT is a Disability Confident Employer

09 Dec 24

At HPFT, supporting our staff with disabilities is incredibly important, in all stages of the employment process.

A graphic showing a diverse group of people talking to each other, with some of them having visible physical disabilities. At the top of the graphic, there is text which says "disability confident".

If you have a physical or mental impairment which lasts 12 months or more, and has a substantial impact on your ability to do normal day-to-day activities, by law you are considered as having a disability. Disabilities include auto-immune conditions, learning disabilities, organ-specific conditions, progressive conditions and more.

This also includes having a mental health condition.

For Disability History Month, this year’s theme is “Disability Livelihood and Employment”. Did you know that if you have a disability and apply to a role in the Trust, we have a wide range of support available for you?

HPFT is a Disability Confident Employer. We are dedicated to providing fair and equal access to employment for people with a disability, impairment or long-term health condition.

If you apply for a role within HPFT…

  • We will treat you equally with other applicants regardless of disability
  • If you declare that you have a disability under the Disability Confident scheme, providing you meet 100% of the essential criteria for the role, you will be guaranteed an interview.
  • We will ask you about any special requirements that need to facilitate your attendance and performance in an interview or assessment.

If you are employed by the Trust…

We want to support you to take on your role safely, effectively and confidently.

We are committed to supporting you so that you can perform your duties to the best of your ability, and we can offer you reasonable adjustments if you need them.

Reasonable adjustments could include: additional coaching and supervision; adjusting duties; flexible working; approving absence during working hours for treatment and more.

We are also passionate about supporting the health and wellbeing of our staff through offerings such as:

  • Health and Wellbeing Champions, who can support you to access the services you need
  • A network of Mental Health First Aiders, who provide peer-to-peer supportive conversations and signposting
  • Regular wellbeing events such as mindfulness, yoga and crafting
