Celebrating International Nurses Day at HPFT

15 May 26

International Nurses Day gives us the chance to recognise the skill, compassion and impact of all our nurses. This year, more than 80 HPFT colleagues came together for our International Nurses Day conference to celebrate what makes nursing at HPFT so special.

Chaired by Bina Jumnoodoo, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, the day focused on what matters most to our nurses and the people we care for, and on the difference it makes when nurses feel supported, valued and able to do their best work.

We were pleased to welcome guest speaker Dr Marion Lynch, Chief Executive Officer of Art of Nursing, a national nursing leadership organisation. Dr Lynch spoke about the legacy and lasting influence of nursing, highlighting the compassion and creativity at the heart of the profession.

Throughout the day, sessions explored professional standards, inclusion and wellbeing, alongside how our HPFT nursing strategy is being shaped and delivered in practice alongside a look ahead to the future of the profession.

The wide-ranging agenda encouraged plenty of discussion, learning and celebration of nurses’ work across different services. There was also time to recognise colleagues nominated by their peers as ‘unsung heroes’ – those whose impact is felt by colleagues, service users and carers every day.

Bina Jumnoodoo, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, said:

“International Nurses Day reminds us why nursing matters so deeply to our Trust and to the communities we serve. It is about recognising the expertise, leadership and compassion of our nurses, and making sure their voices help shape the future of care at HPFT.

"Thank you to all our nurses for the commitment, care and professionalism they bring every day."

Following the event, Bina accompanied Emma Wadey, Chief Nursing Officer and Deputy Chief Executive and Keith Mupita, Deputy Director of Safety and Risk Management to The Florence Nightingale Commemoration Service at Westminster Abbey as guests of the Florence Nightingale Foundation.
