HPFT’s Chief Medical Officer to share clinical expertise on Mental Health Bill implementation

HPFT’s Chief Medical Officer, Professor Asif Zia, will be speaking at the upcoming Westminster Insight’s Mental Health Bill Conference. He will be contributing his clinical expertise to the national conversation on mental health legislation.

With the Mental Health Bill close to becoming law, the conference is a timely opportunity for people across health, social care, law enforcement and the voluntary sector to come together to discuss how to get ready for the new law and deal with the changes it will bring. The new law will mean long awaited changes including stricter criteria for detention and increased patient rights.

Professor Zia will be taking part in a panel discussion which will consider areas such as improving partnership working between the NHS, councils, police and prisons to prepare for the Act, financial, legal and operational planning considerations and improving the safety and therapeutic environments of inpatient wards.

The event takes place on Thursday 4 December.
