Let’s talk mental health

10 Oct 25

This World Mental Health Day, we’re encouraging everyone to take time to reflect on your own mental wellbeing and on how you can support those around you.

Looking after your mental health is just as important as physical health, and small acts of care and understanding can make a big difference — at home, at work, and in our communities.

World Mental Health Day logo is a smiling face of the world with a green ribbon wrapped around it saying World Mental Health Day 10 Oct. This is all on a purple plain background.

Throughout the day, we’ll be sharing a series of short video clips on our social media platforms, offering practical advice and support on spotting the signs of someone in crisis, reasonable adjustment for mental health in the workplace, getting early support and starting a conversation with others about mental health.

Whether you are looking to help yourself, a friend, a colleague or your team, these resources are here to guide you.

Emma Wadey, our Chief Nursing Officer provides advice on spotting the signs of people in crisis. “This mental health day it is really important we break the silence. We reach out to others and ask them how they are – how they truly are. We remind people how much they matter and what a positive impact they have on us. And we let them know that if they’re struggling, we’re here to listen, to help and to walk alongside them.”

Jo Humphries, our Chief People Officer talks about reasonable adjustments for mental health in the workplace. “Mental health conditions are not a barrier to employment but we also know that there is still a stigma surrounding mental health, which stops people having those conversations to help them to get into employment or to stay healthy and well and thrive when they are in employment. What is really important is to start to have that conversation.”

Phoebe Watson, one of our Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, updates on how Talking Therapies can help people with their mental health. “You don’t have to wait until you are in crisis to get help. As a service, Talking Therapies offers free psychological support for individuals who are suffering with common mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties and phobias.”

Andrew Nicholls, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Recovery at HPFT talks about the importance of normalising mental health conversations. “It’s understandable that people might feel that starting a mental health conversation with somebody might be an enormously difficult thing to do but it might also be the most important thing you do today.”
