Our mid-west Essex psychiatry team are celebrating after being named Best Psychiatric Team of the Year: Intellectual Disability at the Royal College of Psychiatrists Awards.

These annual awards celebrate excellence and innovation in mental health services across the UK, recognising teams that make a real difference to people’s lives.

Indermeet Sawhney, HPFT Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Director, said:

“It was an honour and a privilege to receive this accolade on behalf of the team. Receiving this award highlights our commitment to delivering equitable and compassionate care. It is testament to the team’s commitment to improving outcomes for the most vulnerable population we serve. It also reflects how we have been able to implement innovative models of care, ensuring that our services remain responsive and forward thinking.”

The team received their award from Adrian James, Medical Director for Mental Health and Neurodiversity and former President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The Mid-West Essex Psychiatry Team supports people with learning disabilities in the community who have complex mental health needs and challenging behaviour. They also work to rehabilitate psychiatric inpatients in learning disability, adult psychiatry and general hospital beds, helping to prevent unnecessary and prolonged hospital stays.

This award is a fantastic recognition of the team’s dedication and innovation in providing high quality, person-centred care.
