Walking together for mental health

19 May 26

Colleagues from our Adult Community Mental Health Services and Talking Therapies in Dacorum joined residents for a 4.5km 'community walk and talk' to mark Mental Health Awareness Week.

Two HPFT staff members and Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor stand outdoors in a car park on a sunny day, with trees and buildings in the background.

John, Service Manager for Dacorum Adult Community Mental Health Service and Kiran from Talking Therapies took part in the walk on Friday 15 May, hosted by Hemel Hempstead MP David Taylor. The distance was chosen to highlight the 4.5-year life expectancy gap between men and women, with suicide being the leading cause of death for men under 50.

Thanks to community partners, including Hemel’s Camelot Rugby Club and Hemel Hempstead Town FC, the walk encouraged more than 30 residents and representatives from local organisations to take part.

The walk created space for open conversations about mental health and showing that no one locally has to walk alone. HPFT colleagues John and Kiran, were on hand to chat to fellow walkers and share mental health resources and information about the services the Trust offers.
