New wards open to improve care and meet rising demand in Hertfordshire

An innovative reconfiguration of beds at two Trust sites in Radlett will help to improve care and reduce out of area placements.

Our new Elm ward is a learning disability assessment and treatment unit based at 4 Bowlers Green in Radlett. It offers a calm environment with greater space for therapeutic activities. The new layout enables more individual care, whilst also supporting getting back to everyday tasks such as laundry, which helps people to return home.

The Trust is also continuing to reinvest in community services for learning disabilities which will help reduce avoidable admissions and offer better crisis support.

The Trust has refurbished the old learning disability ward and it has re-opened as an adult mental health ward, Dove, to meet rising demand and support women with complex mental health needs.

Dove is a 16‑bed female acute ward based at Kingfisher Court. It provides safe, compassionate inpatient care for women who need short‑term, intensive support during a period of acute mental ill health.

Katy Healy, Chief Operating Officer at HPFT said:

“We want to make sure every person who comes into our care receives the right support at the right time. By creating environments that support recovery we can continue to deliver safe high quality care for the people we serve.”
