Seward Lodge marks Dignity Action Day with creativity and cake

01 Feb 26

Seward Lodge, our inpatient unit providing mental health services for older people, marked Dignity Action Day with a celebration that brought service users and staff together to reflect on the importance of respect, kindness and dignity in everyday care.

A staff member in an NHS uniform stands beside a colourful wall display featuring a large paper tree. The tree is covered in brightly coloured leaves, each with handwritten words about values such as respect and dignity. The wall has the heading “Respect & Dignity” in large decorative letters.

The team created a Respect and Dignity Tree, now proudly displayed on the ward. Each leaf was added by service users and staff, sharing words and pledges about what dignity means to them.

To continue the celebrations, everyone came together for a relaxed afternoon tea. A range of different teas were on offer — giving people the chance to try something new. The group also enjoyed a Victoria sponge and cupcakes which had been made by staff with service users.

The day was a great success, with service users saying how much they enjoyed being involved and trying different activities.

A plate of small sponge cakes topped with whipped cream and halved strawberries sits next to a larger Victoria-style sponge cake dusted with icing sugar.
