International Volunteer Day – 5 December 2021

03 Dec 21

5 December is International Volunteer Day and where we celebrate just what an amazing group of people volunteers all over the world are. People volunteer for so many different reasons and come from a variety of backgrounds and age groups, but what they all have in common is their wish to contribute actively to their local community

Volunteering also offers an opportunity to:

  • Meet new people
  • Learn new skills
  • Gain work experience and sometimes even qualifications
  • And with HPFT, we can help you gain experience and confidence of working in a mental health setting

Here at HPFT we love our volunteers, and really value and recognise the contribution they bring to the organisation in helping to ensure we deliver the best possible care to people within our services. We have lots of people volunteering and giving up their spare time to help us across a wide variety of services, including Roger Selwyn, who is an admin volunteer at the Marlowes’ NW Adult Community Team and spends a day and a half every week helping them. Roger’s contribution to the team’s work is so invaluable that he was recently nominated for a ‘Special Contribution’ award at our recent HPFT Staff Awards.

A member of the NW Adult Community Team gave us this brilliant feedback:

“Roger helps us with day-to-day routine pieces of admin work that include scanning, text messaging reminders for appointments, and will attend our Business Meeting when he can, sometimes joining us in our morning team huddle to be involved even if it’s not at the usual time he volunteers. Roger is always happy to help with any new ideas for quality improvement and is interested in how he can better the service.

Roger is an amazing volunteer and we’re incredibly lucky to have him!”

So on this International Volunteers Day, we’d like to say a BIG thank you to all of our fantastic volunteers! And if volunteering with HPFT is something you’d like to do, so please just click here to find out more information and how you can get involved!
