HPFT staff shortlisted for three Royal College Psychiatry Awards

17 Aug 20

We are proud to announce that one Consultant and two teams at Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) have been shortlisted for this year’s national Royal College of Psychiatry Awards (RCPsych) in three categories:

  • Speciality Doctor/Associate of the year - Dr Dilini Jayalath
  • Psychiatric team of the year, Children and Adolescent – CAMHS DBT Team
  • Psychiatric team of the year, Intellectual Disability - Community LD Team in Buckinghamshire

Speciality Doctor/Associate of the year

Dr Dilini Jayalath is a Consultant, working with people who have challenging behaviours in dementia. She is valued by patients, carers and colleagues for her clinical acumen and calm persona, as well as her contributions which include carrying out assessments, supervising others, auditing and research work - all whilst working extremely hard to achieve her PhD.

Psychiatric Team of the Year – Children and Adolescents

The CAMHS DBT Team provides local evidence-based treatment, meeting the needs of young people in Hertfordshire with emotion regulation difficulties, as well as supporting the work completed by our Tier 4 services in order to reduce admissions. This transformational treatment is helping equip young people with the skills to allow them to manage strong emotions without relying on inpatient admissions to stay safe.

Psychiatric Team of the Year – Intellectual Disability

The Community Learning Disabilities Team in Buckinghamshire is a fantastic team with staff who are always supporting what service users can do, rather than what they can’t do. They encourage service users to have their annual health check and are always looking at ways to improve and develop their service, enabling service users to be as independent and fulfilled as possible,

HPFT’s Executive Director of Quality and Medical Leadership, Professor Asif Zia said: "It’s wonderful to see Dr Jayalath, our new CAMHS DBT Team and our Community Learning Disabilities Team in Buckinghamshire receiving national recognition for their impressive work. All three entries demonstrate the Trust’s values and our commitments to keeping our service users at the heart of everything we do. We are so proud of our staff for getting shortlisted for these prestigious national awards.”

The full list of nominees for the 2020 Royal College of Psychiatry Awards is here and the awards ceremony will take place virtually on 19 November 2020.
